Today’s Senate reintroduction of the Dream Act by Senators Richard Durbin (D-Ill.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) is a positive step toward bipartisan immigration reform.
The Dream Act will protect people who were brought to the United States as children, grew up in neighborhoods right here in North Texas, enrich our communities, and contribute to our economy. Dreamers are just as American as any of us, and they deserve a path to citizenship. I’m proud to stand beside Dreamers and support other meaningful protections for immigrants, including the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.
DACA is facing challenges here in Texas and around the country, and Pete Sessions has been instrumental in these efforts — particularly in preventing Dreamers from serving in the military. I’m calling on Rep. Sessions to back legislation in the House to make DACA law, and to follow suit with this bipartisan effort to pass the Dream Act in the Senate.
