Today is a victory for everyone who stepped forward and made their voices heard against this unconscionable bill. But it’s critical that we keep up the energy and continue speaking out against both the American Health Care Act in the House — which Pete Sessions strongly supported — and the Better Care Reconciliation Act in the Senate.
Both pieces of legislation are clear attempts to take care away from at least 22 million Americans — including tens of thousands of people here in North Texas. And both bills hurt our most vulnerable neighbors, from seniors to low-income families, from veterans to the disabled, in exchange for tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires. Even worse, the House bill would take care away from at least 324,000 North Texans with pre-existing conditions.
Health care is not a political issue — it’s a human issue. In the greatest country in the world, no one should be afraid that getting sick will mean bankruptcy or a death sentence. We have to keep up the pressure to make sure that this indefensible bill never becomes law.
